This report presents the results of an investigation by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere at Colorado State University in 1988 on the atmospheric circulation and terrain at Shenandoah National Park. The first objective of the study was to estimate the contribution of a proposed Coors facility near Elkton, Virginia to the SO2 concentrations in the park. The study used models and meteorological simulators. The second objective was to examine the meteorological fields relevant to air quality in a region of complex terrain, in order to illustrate atmospheric flow phenomena and recommend methods for air quality assessments.
