Occurrence of false rings in Apache pine (Pinus engelmannii) in Chiricahua National Monument, Arizona, and correlation with climatic variables

Gillespie WB. 1990. Occurrence of false rings in Apache pine (Pinus engelmannii) in Chiricahua National Monument, Arizona, and correlation with climatic variables

The objective of this study was to examine false rings on crossdated specimens of Apache pine, develop a chronology of their presence and absence, assess the importance of age and interstand differences, and make preliminary correlations of their occurrence with climatic data. Observations on the placement of false rings along the radial axis within each annual ring are also made. Two stands of Apache pine were sampled from Rhyolite Canyon in Chiricahua National Monument.
