Springs and seeps at MEVE occur within four different seimentary formations (Cliff House sandstone, Menefee formation, Mancos shale, Point Lookout sandstone). Some may be associated with igneous dikes or faults. The possibility of unmapped igneous dikes and faults may be supported by the lack of recharge area for the springs and seeps in the northern part of the park and the possibility of unmapped dikes by also be supported by the differences in the chemical characteristics of the water from different springs and seeps in the park. Springs and seeps in the drainage channels appear to be the most productive given the calculated ET values which were based on estimates of the amount of vegetation different types of springs and seeps support.
