A black-vented oriole was identified at Rio Grande Village, Big Bend National Park, Texas in September 1968. In 1969, an individual of the same species was again seen at Rio Grande Village from late April to early August. The bird was captured, banded and photographed. Identification was confirmed. This was the first positive occurrence of the black-vented oriole in the U.S.
