Off-road Recreational Vehicle Use of Perdido Key, Florida: A Discussion

Shabica SV. 1979. Off-road Recreational Vehicle Use of Perdido Key, Florida: A Discussion. NSTL

This report assesses the impact of off-road vehicles (ORVs) on the Perdido Key portion of Gulf Islands National Seashore, FL division. Numerous trails cut through the dunes and cause extensive damage to vegetation and dune stabilization. Wind and wave action from storms and high tides produce dune deterioration and dune "blowouts" at the points of vehicle dune-trails. Shore erosion on both Big Lagoon and Gulf of Mexico beaches is also attributed to ORVs.
