Animal life
Fregien GO. 1983. Animal life. Pages AL1-AL39. In State of California, Department of Parks and Recreation. Inventory of features:Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park
This report on the terrestrial animals of the three state parks within Redwood National Park, California, is divided into sections for ten different biotic communities. Each section discusses the habitat and its residents, with about 20 original color prints showing the different types of natural area. The report also describes fauna before European influence, rare/endangered animals, and special interest animals: Roosevelt elk, black bear, muskrat, beaver, northern flying squirrel, birds, coast cutthroat trout, and several amphibians. The first appendix provides checklists of amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds with the type of occurrence noted for each park. It includes maps showing distribution of special interest animals (one map for each park), elk distribution, and habitat zones. The second appendix includes a report on aquatic habitats and attendant biotas. The appendix copy in the Wildlife Open Area is titled "A Preliminary Report on Aquatic Habitats and Attendant Biotas" (DeMartini 1982), and the appendix copy in V. Gizinski's office is titled "A Biological Inventory of the Aquatic Biota of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park" (DeMartini and Jay 1984). Both appendix reports are described separately in this database.
