In studying the herpetofauna at Saguaro National Monument, and making comparisons with other areas, the author finds a line of demarcation, with effects similar to those at Wallace's Line in the Malay Archipelago. Among four pairs of lizards and snakes occurring at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, one of each (the more xeric one) is absent at Saguaro National Monument. For this and other biogeographic investigations, areas not overly affected by human activities are required, and the Rincon Mountain area will be the last such montane forest island in its archipelago. Bibliography, 6 figures, 3 tables. Known monument herpetofauna of 57 species is briefly addressed.
