Ordovician fossils of the Delaware Water Gap area

Ordovician fossils were collected from the Martinsburg and Shawangunk formations in the Delaware Water Gap area. Field collections show that both shelly and graptolite fossils are abundant in the Martinsburg Formation. The principal fossil locality in the Shawangunk formation, with euripterid bearing rocks, is adjacent to the Point-of-Gap parking area. No special protection of these sites is required. It should be noted that any construction which exposes fossiliferous strata in the Recreation Area should allow for study of the fossil resources.
