The abstract notes that understanding seasonal forest activity by Marbled Murrelets is important in determining the life history and in managing the species. Current monitoring occurs only during the breeding season, but the birds are also found to use forests (at a lower level) during winter. The paper describes annual cycles of forest use by murrelets, and spatial patterns (activity in relation to the forest canopy) using the results of studies in California and throughout the range of the species. Several of the study sites for are within Redwood National and State Parks. The report contains 14 figures (charts and graphs of activities).
