This report is one of a series addressing the performance of the beach nourishment project along the eastern 7.5km of Perdido Key, FL. The project has been monitored on an annual or biennial basis since the project start in November, 1989. This report covers the January and July, 1997 monitoring period. As of January, 1997, approximately 56% of 4.1 million cubic meters of sand placed in the beach nourishment remains within the original construction site. Over half of the eroded volume occurred during the last 3.3 years with the most severe erosion concentrated on the eastern end of the project near Pensacola Pass. The document contains numerous profile graphs of the island, its lagoons, and shoreline changes.
