This report documents the results of the 1989 productivity survey of twelve historic peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus anatum) territories in Big Bend National Park and along the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence, nesting chronology, and breeding success at each location. As time permitted, a search for new eyries was made. Aside from the twelve previously known sites, the productivity results of two new eyries are also included. Eight eyries were inhabited by adult pairs of peregrine falcons in 1989 compared to six in 1988. In addition, two territories were held by lone falcons this year. While this is a record number, it may not necessarily reflect a growth in total population in this study area, but rather could be the results of accumulated data and more thorough searching efforts in recent years. In any case, there is certainly no evidence of a population decline.
