A helicopter survey was performed from 14 to 22 June 1993 to examine habitat where peregrine falcons might occur in the Park and to locate aeries. No peregrine aeries were found inland. One gyrfalcon aerie and a second pair of gyrfalcons whose aerie was not located were found inland. One active and one inactive golden eagle nest and 10 rough-legged hawk nests were also located inland. No active aeries were found on the coast of Amalik Bay where a peregrine had been seen in 1992, but an adult peregrine that appeared to be on a nesting ledge was seen near Cape Douglas. The only documented nests positioned on the coast were those of rough-legged hawks or ravens. A blood sample for later analysis was taken from a gyrfalcon. Identified aeries were plotted and habitat mapped using Global Positioning System and Geographic Information System methods.
