A photographic method of estimating population size was developed for studying large nursery colonies of Tadarida brasiliensis. A series of estimates outlined the seasonal pattern of population-size change. Bats were nonuniformly distributed in the evening flight by' sex and reproductive status. Systematic programs using photographic population-size estimates and Constantine-trap samples should enable researchers to conduct more sophisticated analyses of population dynamics than have been possible for this species in the past.
