Physical, Chemical, and Biological Impacts of Liming on a Cape Cod Kettle Pond

Shortelle AB and Colburn EA. 1987. Physical, Chemical, and Biological Impacts of Liming on a Cape Cod Kettle Pond

Report to the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. High concentrations of acid deposition occur in Massachusetts and the effects of this deposition on natural resources are of concern. Liming of lakes is sometimes done to improve aquatic habitats for fish. This study monitored physical, chemical, and biological parameters in Great Pond in Truro, Massachusetts, before (1984) and after adding lime (1985), to help assess the ecological effects of liming. A reference pond (Ryder Pond in Truro) was monitored at the same time. See "Conclusions and Recommendations" of report for major findings and recommendations.
