Phytogeography of Sand Dunes in the Great Basin and Mojave Deserts
Pavlik BM. 1989. Phytogeography of Sand Dunes in the Great Basin and Mojave Deserts. Journal of Biogeography. 16(3):227-238
A number of sand dune areas now within Death Valley National Park are among the areas surveyed in this study of dune flora and historical migration patterns of plant species. "Approximately 95% of the taxa was indigenous" [from the author's Abstract]. Eureka Dunes were among the oldest in the study, and several of the other Death Valley dune systems were among the youngest. The author used TWINSPAN analysis in comparisons. Several of the illustrations show hypothetical routes of psammophyte migration during different stages of the Holocene.
