Phytogeography of South Padre Island, Texas

Article reporting results of study examining the flora of South Padre Island with regard to phytogeographic affinity. Of 99 native species, 44% are found also on the mainland, and 28% of native species have tropical affinities. Two species are endemic to Padre Island. The tropical species reach the Island by oceanic drift but birds are the most active and important dispersal agent for native species.
