A study concerned with the plant ecology of Horn and Petit Bois Islands in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Florida and Mississippi. A description of the island includes geography, geology, physical description, and historical information. Specimens of all vascular plant species occurring on the islands were collected. A discussion concerning the nonvascular plants occurring on the islands is presented. Plant community types are described. The topography and elevation of the islands is studied. There is an inventory and distribution study of live oaks (Quercus virginiana). The age of the slash pine (Pinus elliottii) is studied. There are discussions concerning the following topics: species diversity, succession and relationships between plant communities, effects of fire on the vegetation of the islands, effects of exotic animals on the vegetation of the islands, and effects of human activities on the vegetation of the islands. A species list of vascular plants occurring on the islands is presented. There are species lists for each of the plant communities defined. There are photographs showing various views of the islands. Vegetation maps (scale 1:8450) for each of the islands were produced and are included in pocket in the back cover.
