This dissertation discusses four dormant season burning regimes in relation to relative and absolute plant community cover at Big Meadows, Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. The overall conclusion was that prescribed burning at Big Meadows results in a transient reduction in plant community biomass which is compensated for within one or two growing seasons with little impact on the species community as measured by plant cover
