Lucifer hummingbirds were observed in 1952 and 1953 in the Chisos Mountains, Big Bend National Park, Texas. Plumages of the birds observed in 1953, consisting of 6 males, 2 females, and 2 immatures were noted. Territorial behavior was exhibited by most of these Lucifer hummingbirds, and a male feeding territory was observed for 2 hours. The author noted time spent feeding, resting and defending territory. Some birds were observed to share feeding territory within a species and even with other species while others exhibited marked territorial feeding behavior.
