The mud turtle population at Quitobaquito appears to be declining. The Yellow Mud Turtle has not been seen there since 1955, and the remaining species, a subspecies of Sonoran Mud Turtle that exists only in the Rio Sonoita and at Quitobaquito, shows decreasing numbers. The report describes the area, population size (about 100 individuals) and survivorship, possible migration between Rio Sonoita and Quitobaquito, predation, growth, and habitat use. A methodology is given for tracking the population at Quitobaquito. Bibliography, appendix with management recommendations, 4 tables, 7 figures, 2 plates (nine original color prints and photocopies of same, 2" x 3") and an addenda.
