This report, the third in a series investigating wolves in and adjacent to Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, details work completed in 1988. Radiotelemetry and harvest evaluations were continued, and a food-habits determination was initiated. During 3-11 April 1988, 14 wolves were instrumented. Of the 44 wolves radio-collared to date, 25 were known to be alive in the study area as of the end of 1988. During 1987-88 winter, 38 wolves were harvested by residents of Anaktuvuk Pass, including 25 taken within the boundaries of the Park. A food item analysis of 2,056 scats collected from 200 homesites is presented in tabular form. Maps of minimum home ranges of several packs are also presented.
