The prawn, Palaemonetes paludosus, is commonly found in the swamps and marshes southern Florida Everglades. Hydrologic conditions influence both the prawn's population levels and its ecological role. The authors collected data on the prawns for 7 years to determine how seasonal fluctuations in water levels affected the prawn's population. The authors determined that prawns in the Everglades are particularly suited to drying conditions, as they are well adapted to low oxygen levels which occur when many species must share a small body of water. The article contains tables reflecting water levels in the park from 1966-1972, and prawn breeding seasons.
