This report is the result of a study which took place from 1981 to 1986 on Santa Barbara Island where 787 island night lizards (Xantusia riversiana) were caught 1,162 times. Topics include weather, trapping, handling of lizards, habitat types, trap descriptions, radioactive tracking, fluorescent tracking, sex ratio, seasonal and daily activity, habitat preference, movements between pitfall traps, home range, density, population size, and management recommendations. Xantusia riversiana is endemic to the Channel Islands
