Post-Hurricane Hugo Sediment Deposition and its Effects on the Hard Coral Montastrea annularis in St John, USVI

Schulman RN. 1989. Post-Hurricane Hugo Sediment Deposition and its Effects on the Hard Coral Montastrea annularis in St John, USVI

Looked at the amount of sediment covering colonies of Montastrea annularis (coral) and the amount of bleaching. Compared the "fisted" colonies with "non-fisted" colonies. Sediment deposition after hurricane Hugo was measured in Greater Lameshur Bay. St. John, USVI. Effects of sediment were measures by the amount of bleaching of M. annularis fisted and non-fisted morphs. A significant difference was found between the amount of bleaching between the fisted and non-fisted categories, with the fisted being healthier.
