The purpose of this report is to analyze the potential for impact to the water quality of Aimakapa Pond and nearby anchialine pools from the discharge-type alternatives. The analysis is based on assumptions about the delivery of nutrients and other pollutants to the groundwater system and subsequent transport to Aimakapa Pond and anchialine pools. The analysis is intended to assist the NPS in determining the most appropriate wastewater treatment alternative for the new visitor center. Report presents a conceptual model of the hydrology of `Aimakapa Fishpond and nearby anchialine pools and how it might be affected by wastewater discharged from a proposed visitor center. Report concludes that impacts could occur, including lowered dissolved oxygen, increased eutrophication, and elevated ammonia. Authors recommend a Section 7 consultation with the Fish & Wildlife Service before building a septic system.
