Permanent and walking transects and forb transects were sampled at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site reconstructed prairie in August, 1994. This marks the 12th inventory since 1982 on the site providing information for use in prairied management and interpretation. Over the years prescribed burning has brought about significant changes in the prairie vegetation including decreases in the density of Canada thistle and the dominaance of big bluestem mostly at the expense of switchgrass. Prairie forbs have also increased in percent cover, especially Canada goldenrod.
