Pre- and Post-Hurricane Comparison of Scleractinian Corals at Coral Gardens, Greater Lameshur Bay, St John USVI
Endacott K. 1989. Pre- and Post-Hurricane Comparison of Scleractinian Corals at Coral Gardens, Greater Lameshur Bay, St John USVI
A comparative analysis of scleractinian species found at Coral Gardens, Greater Lameshur Bay, St. John revealed a significant difference in pre- and post-hurricane reef diversity and abundance. Mean diameter sizes of three coral species were compared as well. A significant difference in mean diameter sizes of Porites astreoides and Montastrca annularis was determined, but no change in mean diameter size of Agaricia agaricites was discovered. Identified coral colonies along transects, then chose three species and measured colony diameter in 30 meter quadrats (all in Coral Gardens, Greater Lameshur Bay). Compared results with similar work done before Hurricane Hugo.
