This article documents the first known case of raccoon(Procyon lotor) predation on an adult diamondback terrapins (Malaclemys terrapin tequesta). The author observed actual predation on a dike in Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge during nesting season. Further observation indicated that predation occurred only during the terrapin nesting season. Author cites man-made changes in the Merritt Island system (mosquito dikes) account for the increased contact of the two species and therefore the predation.
