Prehistoric Morphology and Marsh Development of Pamet River Valley and Nauset Marsh
Leatherman SP. 1981. Prehistoric Morphology and Marsh Development of Pamet River Valley and Nauset Marsh. Report Number 51. The Environmental Institute, University of Massachusetts. Amherst, MA
The focus of this work was to expand upon the previous report by O'Donnell and Leatherman (1980) concerning the geomorphic evolution of Outer Cape Cod. Two areas, the Pamet River Valley and Nauset Marsh, were identified as sites where additional data and field tests should be provided. These field data allowed for a more accurate reconstruction of the prehistoric natural environment of these areas of archaeological significance. The following additional information was sought: (1) depth to the pre-Holocene base of the Pamet River and identification of sediment types for paleo-environment reconstruction and (2) evolution of Nauset Marsh, including its time of establishment. Methods included coring and seismic surveying.
