Environmental assessment for a wetland restoration project at Big Lagoon in Golden Gate National Recreation Area. This project will be done by the California Department of Transportation to mitigate for damage caused by highway reconstruction along the coast. The report describes the natural conditions and historic changes at Big Lagoon (geomorphology, lagoon morphology, historic sediments, hydrologic regime of the wetland/lagoon system and Redwood Creek, the riparian, freshwater lagoon, tidal lagoon, beach dune and hillside ecosystems), land use and recreation in the area, future conditions, restoration objectives, opportunities & constraints and restoration alternatives.
