Preliminary experimental studies of mice of Mount Desert Island, Maine
Johnson BW. 1927. Preliminary experimental studies of mice of Mount Desert Island, Maine. Journal of Mammalogy. 8(4):276-284
Trapping of small mammals occurred at Pickett Mountain (Huguenot Head), Bear Brook Hill, Otter Cliffs, and Newport Mountain. Mice were marked with an eartag for later identification if retrapped. Summarizes numbers of mice caught, sex, number of retrapped mice, and trap nights at each location. The three species of mice caught were Microtus pennsylvanicus pennsylvanicus, Evotomys (Clethrionomys) gapperi ochraceous, and Peromyscus maniculatus abietorum. Also summarizes the moisture content and the altitude of the study sites and how this affects the species found
