Premature births in California sea lions: association with high organochlorine pollutant residue levels

Delong RL, Gilmartin WG, Simpson JG. 1973. Premature births in California sea lions: association with high organochlorine pollutant residue levels. Science. 181(4105):1168-1170

'Premature pupping has been noted on rookeries since 1968. Organochlorine pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyl residues were two to eight times higher in tissues of premature parturient females and pups than in similar tissues of full-term parturient females and pups collected on San Miguel Island in 1970.'
