Sightings of territorial Pacific Herald Petrels (Pterodroma arminjoniana heraldica) over forested ridges of Ta'u island, and of a downy chick of a Pterodroma petrel near the top of the island indicate the presence of a breeding colony there. A Herald Petrel specimen collected from the Ta'u population is described and compared with other Pacific populations.
