The Problem of DDT and Peregrines in the Trans-Pecos
Hogan KM. 1987. The Problem of DDT and Peregrines in the Trans-Pecos. The Chihuahuan Desert Discovery. (22):8-9
Explains DDE contamination causes and effects in avian species. Reports that Trans-Pecos birds attain higher DDE levels after nesting in New Mexico and Texas than from wintering in Central-South America, as evidenced by survey of Peregrine eyries in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Avian contamination monitoring in Big Bend National Park is recognized in the Park's Resource Management Plan but has yet to be implemented.
