The main objectives of this year's research were to study post-fire forest stands dominated by white birch, by quaking aspen or by jack pine. The interest was first to determine what causative factors results in the establishment in one or another of these pioneer forest types. In addition, the aim was to characterize each forest type and, in particular, compare the three types with regard to the attributes which result from their establishment. Another objective for this year's research was to continue the flora project which will eventually result in a complete annotated list of the vascular plants of Isle Royale. Still another objective was to continue observations of the effects of moose and beaver on the vegetation.
