Description of the parks, justification for project, description of monitoring process, budget, etc. The project involves scientific monitoring of resources to identify environmental changes, whether natural or human-influenced. Pages 7-8 list the management needs for specific types of monitoring in each of the three units. Monitoring will include meteorology, soil erosion and nutrients, plants (long-term population demographics, diversity, percent cover and more), and animals (arthropods, amphibians, birds, mammals). Other special monitoring efforts will include hantavirus evaluations of live-trapped rodents, fire effects at Bandelier and El Malpais, disturbance/succession monitoring at Pecos following cessation of grazing, changes in El Malpais lava tube ice caves, and more.
