Protecting Rainbow Bridge
Woodbury AM. 1960. Protecting Rainbow Bridge. Science. 132(3426):519-528
The article discusses proposals current at the time for building a barrier dam to prevent the rising water behind Glen Canyon Dam from reaching and damaging Rainbow Bridge. The author suggests that instead of the land-scarring construction project, leaving the area alone may eventually result in natural sediment deposit that would keep the lake water at some distance from the bridge. In a companion article from the May 19, 1961 issue of Science, William R. Halliday takes issue with this stand, and there is a reply by Woodbury. Black-and-white photographs, map, charts
