The author [and others] have documented movement of large amounts of sediment through the Redwood Creek system (Redwood National Park, California) in recent years. One particularly large input occurred with heavy storms in December 1964. The amount of sediment in storage is an important part of determining sediment routing, and the author classifies sediment reservoirs as active, semi-active, inactive, or stable. Based on the residence times and movement of stored sediments determined by the study, the author states that 'Recovery time from aggradation has been slow, and total recovery will take more than a century.'
