Project to create a data management system to place data into for the use of general public. The Center for Earth Observation at North Carolina State University has worked with the Northeast Region of the National Park Service (NPS) for over 10 years in the development of geographic information systems (GIS) for resource management. This activity has led to major advances in the planning and application of GIS technology in the NPS and has placed the Northeast Region among the leaders within the NPS in this regard. This is a proposal to assist with design and implementation of data management systems for the Northeast Region Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program. NC State will work with regional I&M program cooperators and contractors who either are collecting or have collected natural resource data in parks within the four Northeast Region I&M Networks (Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network, Mid-Atlantic Network, Eastern Rivers and Mountains Network and the Northeast Temperate Network) to assure that all collected data are georeferenced according to national standards and are spatially consistent with each corresponding park's GIS. In addition, we will work with selected scientists to develop project specific relational databases in MS Access for individual inventory and monitoring projects following the National I&M program database template standards. Finally, we will work with regional I&M program cooperators and contractors to develop FGDC Biological Data Profile metadata for all databases.
