The Southwick-Daniels Farm, situated in Blackstone, MA, represents one of the most intact historic farmsteads remaining within the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor. This Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) focuses on land uses of the farm from 1850 through 1950, the period with the most available archival material. This document can be used as a basis for the creation of a management plan and serve as a source of information for future interpretive programs. This CLR consists of three chapters: site history, existing conditions, and landscape analysis. The site history is divided into three sections: Part I- Three Centuries of New England Landscape Change, Part II- Farming in the Blackstone Valley and Mendon, and Part III- Life on the Southwick-Daniels Farm. The existing conditions chapter, prepared in the summer of 2001, documents the current landscape with text and photographs. The analysis and evaluation chapter identifies and evaluates the landscape’s character-defining features in terms of their contribution to the significance of the site. A well-grounded evaluation of the site’s historic integrity is then presented.
