The following project was executed in a 16-week studio course in the Historic Landscape Preservation Program at George Washington University in Washington, DC. The project team included: Claire Blanchard, Lee D’zmura, Kristine Hesse, Harrel Little, Elizabeth Olson, John Sonnier, Regina Travers, and Anne Wintermute. The project was started in early April and concluded in the end of August. Generally, the first eight weeks were spent documenting the landscape, digesting the rich historic documentation, and framing and analytical strategy. The second eight weeks were spent executing the analysis and developing a “Preservation Needs Assessment Plan”. We have selected this name for the studio project rather than master plan or cultural/historic landscape report to reflect the need for further research and analysis. It is our hope that this product could prove useful for both short term, small scale “Friends” projects and more comprehensive planning strategies for future National Park Service capital projects that require advance planning so that they might find a place in fiscal planning efforts in the future.
