GATE - Jamaica Bay Bathymetry

This project was designed to map the bathymetry of Jamaica Bay, NY in order to create a better understanding of the natural process affecting the bay. The project started initial data collection and testing in 2003. However, much of the data was collected in 2008 and 2009. The data collected is a mix of multibeam and single beam. Within this project in addition to the data collected you will also find an excel spreadsheet that lists the file name, the year of collection, the instrument used, the type of data collected and the resolution in meters. It should be noted that the single beam collected at a 5 meter resolution and was able to reach the shallow areas of the bay. The multibeam sensor collected data at a 1 meter resolution however; it could only be used in the deeper portions of the bay. The final product of this project is a raster dataset that blends together the best data from the collection windows. One shows all the data from 2003, 2008 and 2009 while the other shows just 2008 and 2009. We have also included ESRI Shape files that will show where different datasets were collected and during what time. In addition to the blended final datasets, we have also included the raster files from each collection window so that users can access the 1 meter resolution data. We have also created hillshades to provide perspective in each area.
