This report focuses on two central components of the Manassas Battlefield historic scene: fences and vegetation. During the Civil War, the distribution of forest cover and field along with the high density of agricultural fence lines influenced battlefield tactics and strategies. Today, these features are arguably the most visible and widespread markers within the Manassas Battlefield’s cultural landscape, and provide the scaffolding in which the battles are commemorated and interpreted.
