The Jaeger Company. 2013. Lincoln Boyhood Home at Knob Creek: Cultural Landscape Report, Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park, National Park Service. Cultural Landscape Report. Southeast Regional office, National Park Service. Cultural Landscape Report for Lincoln Boyhood Home at Knob Creek at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park

Knob Creek is the site of Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood home, an area which can be found within the 228-acre property of the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park (ABLI). Lincoln was our nation’s sixteenth president and is mostly known for his pivotal role in the American Civil War. ABLI is located in LaRue County, Kentucky, about fifty miles south of Louisville. This cultural landscape report (CLR) details the physical history of Knob Creek from 1811 to 2010 using information from primary and secondary sources, including archival information from the park itself. This CLR also documents the site’s existing conditions, including cultural and natural resources. The existing conditions were recorded in July 2011 and are organized by natural resources (geology, topography and hydrology, soils, and vegetation) and cultural resources (land use, buildings and structures, cultural vegetation, small-scale features, spatial organization, circulation, utilities, and views and vistas). The CLR then compares the historic and existing conditions of the Knob Creek Site to determine historic significance and integrity using the criteria developed by the National Register and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Cultural Landscapes. Finally, the CLR provides treatment recommendations following the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Treatment. Rehabilitation is determined to be the primary treatment for the cultural landscape at Knob Creek.
