From Friday, March 28 until noon on Saturday, March 29, 2014, a park-wide BioBlitz took place within the 80,000 acres of the “Golden Gate National Parks” (GGNP), which includes the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Muir Woods National Monument, and Fort Point National Historic Site (NPS, 2014). The event was a collaboration between the National Park Service, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, the Presidio Trust, and National Geographic as a part of National Geographic’s decade of annual BioBlitzes leading up to the National Park Service Centennial in 2016.
