Extending ordinal regression with a latent zero-augmented beta distribution

Details a new statistical modeling approach for vegetation monitoring when plant cover is binned in to ordinal categories. The method will work for any ordinal data structure in which the lowest category is a true zero (e.g., absence of a species) and when there is a meaningful latent continuous variable from which the ordinal binning is constructed.
