Boat operation comes with inherent danger, and therefore certain precautions must be taken to ensure safety of the boat operator and passengers. The safety requirements include, but are not limited to, sufficient operator skill level, proper safety equipment, and safe weather and sea conditions. Certain guidelines also must be followed during operation of the watercraft. This standard operating procedure (SOP) applies to the operation of motorized and non-motorized watercraft, and must be read in its entirety prior to commencing fieldwork.
