As a living part of the landscape, the plants of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park (LYJO) are an integral part of the park's environment and the historic scene. LYJO consists of seven separate sites representing the ancestry, origins, and full life-span of the 36th President of the United States, with each site associated with a specific period of historical importance. The purpose of this study was to (1) examine and document the vegetation at the seven park sites during their specified periods of historical significance, (2) identify and document existing vegetation at the seven sites for historical comparison and long-term monitoring of change, and (3) formulate recommendations for the restoration and preservation of historic vegetation. The study uses both an inventory of existing vegetation and an assessment of historical vegetation, combining on-site fieldwork and available historical records and documents association with the park's vegetation. The base maps and comparative photographs of historic and existing landscape were used to identify changes in vegetation at the seven park sites. This information can also be used as a guide for site restoration, preservation, and interpretation.
