This report on the environs of the Dunkard Church is based largely on the "Cope" series of maps of the Antietam Battlefield. A drawing made from this source is offered as a key reference to orient the reader with points developed in this report. The physical features described in the report are considered separately and according to their classification by type of feature, rather than being handled together in each area of the map grid. The features are classified into eight general definitions; four constructed and four natural: Roads Lanes Fences (three sub types) Buildings Rocks Woods Vegetation Elevation The report includes information about the history and existing state of each feature, suggesting an idea of how the area around the Dunkard Church appeared during the 1862 battle compared to its appearance at the time of the report. In conclusion, the author notes seven main changes that have occurred in the Dunkard Church environs since the historic Battle of Antietam. Photographs taken in 1962 and the 1880s provide additional evidence.
