The Mumma Farm House that was documented for this report was the result of several periods of reconstruction. It encompass the shell of the pre-Civil War house that was burned during the battle, reconstruction by the Mumma family that incorporated the brick structural remains, and subsequent additions and remodeling. The recommended treatment is preservation of the exterior form and materials as it was acquired by the NPS in 1961. This Preliminary Draft Physical History and Analysis report section is only part of the complete Historic Structures Report. At the time of this publication, historical and archeological data remained incomplete. The information presented here was intended to be evaluated with additional research for a balanced picture of the physical, historical, and archeological character of the Mumma Farm House. The report was undertaken as a result of the 1990 General Management Plan with preservation and adaptive use goals in mind. The 1990 Inventory and Condition Assessment Program (ICAP) report is a companion document, containing specific conditions of building features and cost estimates for preservation and rehabilitation.
